Even though the USDA does not have information about Papua New Guinea, they did have information about Hawaii. As a tropical volcanic island chain, Hawaii possesses high biodiversity, with numerous endemic species, particularly on land. This echoes the high biodiversity found in Papua New Guinea, particularly in its rainforests. . The Big Island’s Hamakua Coast has lush tropical rainforests, waterfalls, and valleys, with high rainfall. Papua New Guinea is also a volcanic region with 19 active, 34 potentially active, and 26 inactive volcanoes.
